Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful and rather rare set of US Naval Reserved Blue Service Dress Uniform with extra items, all named to Chief Yeoman Yvonne McManus. WWII US Navy WAVES items are particularly difficult to come across in recent years due to the small number of women who served in the element. Coming across a uniform set in this kind of condition is another rarity!

From her obituary: “Born March 23, 1921, to William and Mary (Quesnell) McManus, she was a sister to the late Harry McManus and the late Francis “Jiggs” McManus, lifelong Oswegonians. Yvonne attended her neighborhood Kingsford Park School, and graduated from the Oswego High School in 1938.

Employment as a secretary gave way to wartime service in the WAVES (US Navy) from January-1944 to July-1946. Among her duties while assigned to Washington, D.C. was marching in the funeral procession of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was while on leave to Florida that she met fellow Navy serviceman, and husband to be, Thomas A. Jackson of Brockton, Massachusetts (d.1989).”

Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service “WAVES” was the US Naval Reserve Women’s branch established on July 21, 1942. The branch was established to replace men stationed ashore to provide more sea duty sailors and officers. By the end of 1942, there were 770 WAVES Officers and 3,109 enlisted. In 1945 these numbers had grown to 8,475 officers and 73,816 enlisted. Following the War, many WAVES were demobilized, however the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act in 1948 was signed into law allowing women to serve in the regular Navy. The term WAVES continued in usage for Navy women until the 1970’s. The WAVES uniforms were custom designed by Mainbocher, the famous New York fashion house. The uniforms included a white style uniform, a seersucker version with gray and white stripes, and a blue version.

The blue service coat, blue skirt, and black tie are components of both the Service Dress Blue A and Service Dress Blue B WAVES uniforms. The full uniform included a black purse, black shoes, blue service coat, blue skirt, hat or garrison cap, blouse, black tie, and beige hose which are surprisingly all present. White gloves were authorized if the occasion required.

The only difference between the Service Dress Blue A and Service Dress Blue B uniforms was the hat. The A uniform had a blue hat while the B uniform had a white hat. Both served as the working uniforms for WAVES.

The blouse could be either short or long-sleeved. It could be white or light blue, also called reserve blue. Both white and reserve blue blouses were worn with a black tie. A navy blue shirt was also authorized but only when worn with a reserve blue tie.

There is no shoulder insignia present though the WAVES patch insignia is present on both epaulets. The gold buttons on the coat indicate that this uniform dates from after 28 December 1944. At that time Chief Petty Officers were authorized to wear gilt buttons on their blue and white service coats rather than the plastic buttons required for all other enlisted personnel.

This uniform grouping is a wonderful example and is offered without any extensive damage. It fits great in the original included suitcase, which measures 24" x 15 1/2" x 7 1/4".

Comes more than ready for further research and display.

Paper towel continues to spin!
Color: Warm Gold
The paper towel continues to spin because it does not have a buffer inside. So select a size paper towel does not work with this particular paper towel holder.

Simple, Solid, and Looks Great
Color: Antique Bronze
This is one of those simple things that just works exactly how you want it to. First off, it looks really nice on the counter. The antique bronze finish has a slightly warm tone that doesn’t look cheap or overly shiny, and the design is clean enough to fit in with pretty much any kitchen style. Assembly took maybe 30 seconds. You just screw the pieces together and it’s ready to go, no tools or fuss. Swapping out rolls is just as easy, and the top cap keeps everything in place without being annoying to deal with. The weight is really what makes this stand out. The base is heavy enough that it stays put when you tear off a sheet, so you can actually use it one-handed without it tipping or sliding around. It feels solid and well made, not flimsy at all. Size-wise, it fits a standard roll easily and still has room for larger rolls, so you’re not fighting to get a new one on. Overall, it’s sturdy, looks good, and is genuinely easy to use day to day. It’s one of those upgrades that seems small but makes your kitchen feel a little more put together.

You will read this book late into the night or savor it for the next Day. :)
Format: Hardcover
What an amazing writer! Such clear and concise unfolding of events entwined with Biblical signs and Prophecy. Incredibly well researched and a joy to read. This book is a joy to read and while I'm trying to savor it, I can tell I will be reading this all night and rereading again. I want to gift this to my sister because I'm so impressed but I also want it in my collection. I will probably buy this book again for this reason. Exceptionally easy to focus and surrender to what God wants to impart in this book. Thank you for your clarity and love with this book.
