Germination
Aconitum napellus, commonly known as monkshood or wolfsbane, is a perennial plant that can be grown from seeds with careful germination practices. Start by preparing a well-draining seed-starting mix in a seed tray or small pots. Sow the Aconitum napellus seeds on the surface of the soil, pressing them lightly into the medium without covering them, as they require light for germination. Keep the soil consistently moist, maintaining a temperature of around 15-20 degrees Celsius (59-68 degrees Fahrenheit) to promote successful germination. It's crucial to provide a stratification period by placing the seeded tray or pots in the refrigerator for about 4-6 weeks. After this cold stratification, transfer the container to a warm, well-lit location. Germination may take several weeks, so be patient. Once the seedlings have developed a few true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions before planting them in a permanent garden location with rich, moist soil and partial shade.
