If you needed just one scythe for multiple uses around the farm, garden, or homestead, this is an exceptional choice.

Handcrafted at the Shröckenfux Factory in Austria (which has been manufacturing scythes since the 16th Century), this powerful, extremely lightweight, blade (modeled on the dimensions of old Prussian scythes) functions as a phenomenal “all purpose” agrarian cutting tool.

With a large 70-centimeter blade length and a 6-centimeter width, this tool generates significant power on each sweep, allowing for

  • Easy end-of-season garden clearing
  • Efficient cutting of overgrown grass and pasture
  • Quick and easy termination of cover crops
  • Skillful harvesting of grain and specialty crops Straightforward and low-tech weed control and land management

The blade’s stone point reduces potential damage to the tip from rocks and other obstacles on uneven ground, and the slightly hardened steel maintains a thin cutting edge longer between maintenance – creating a great utilitarian balance between the extreme sharpness of softer steel and the durability of harder steel.

This set includes an ergonomically curved, lightweight alpine-style ash handle (snath) with adjustable hand grips. Select a 150-cm handle if you are about 5’10” tall or less, and 160-cm handle if you are taller than 5’10”.

This tool is pre-sharpened and ready to use. For maintenance we recommend frequent sharpening with the coarse-grit Austrian "Blaumark" whetstone, and with the fine-grit “Fux” whetstone to create an extremely sharp blade.

Additionally, the scythe should be “peened” occasionally for maintenance and to fix cracks or dents in the cutting edge. Peening is the process of gently hammering the cutting edge to thin the steel -- see our Peening Anvil and Peening Jig descriptions for two excellent options.

Assembly and use instructions included.

Refund Policy: Please note we are very happy to provide a full refund on scythes that are returned in new and unused condition.

Another good Benchmark Atlas
Format: Spiral-bound
We camp frequently and own all of the Benchmark Atlases. Although, this is different due to Canadian laws, we are excited to try it out! Very detailed with information, such as small campgrounds and identifying land ownership (Forest services or BLM)

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.
