The Anthurium genus is most commonly known for its species that can flower prolifically throughout the year, producing many inflorescences at a time in colors that range from white to pink to red to purple, and a variety of shades and patterns. They can tolerate relatively low indirect light but flower more readily with strong indirect light. Keeping them tight in their pots can also encourage flowering, and they should be watered thoroughly but allowed to dry almost completely in between. Less common are so-called ‘bird’s nest’ Anthuriums, which may have less remarkable and prolific flowers but are grown for their large, impressive leaves which are stiffer and waxier than their siblings. Both types may develop thick knots of roots at the soil surface, adding even more character to these beautiful plants.
