It is also reportedly naturalized in Broward County, Florida. Tillandsia ionantha was described by Jules Emile Planchon and published in Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe between 1854 - 1855. In nature, Tillandsia ionantha has been found growing in both xeric and mesic tropical habitats. This makes the species very beginner friendly as it tolerates a wide range of light and watering routines.
