Germination Instructions:
These are expensive and rare seeds so please take your time. Lophophora require light for successful germination and need a temperature of between 20-30c during the day, and ideally much colder at night to replicate the conditions they have in their natural habitat. .
1) Select a small pot or tray with good drainage holes. Ensure thoroughly cleaned.
2) Use cactus compost (or make your own with mix of sand and fertiliser-free compost. Compost should be moist but not wet. Microwave the compost for a few minutes (to kill any fungae / bacteria) then allow to cool before sowing.
3) Fill the pot/tray 3/4 with the compost then sit in a tray of water for 30 minutes to allow it to take up moisture
4) Spread the seeds over the surface of the compost mix then using a flat object gently tamp (pat) down the seeds to ensure a good contact. A light dusting of silver sand over the top helps to retail moisture
5) Cover with pot/tray with a clear plastic bag- this retains moisture but allows light to get through.
6) Place under UV lights or in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight.
6) Germination can take 7-20 days
7) After gradually remove the plastic bag over a couple of days as this reduces the potential for rot to set in.
