Tuberous begonias are the showstoppers of the shade garden. Grown primarily for their flowers, tuberous begonias bloom for months and do best in cool, filtered light. Their soft, succulent leaves are often asymmetrical and textured, adding another layer of beauty even when not in bloom.
Light: Bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Avoid harsh sun, which can scorch leaves.
Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings. Never let the tuber sit in standing water.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity (40–60%). Good airflow helps prevent mildew.
Temperature: Thrives in 60–75°F. Sensitive to frost—bring indoors or store dormant tubers if temps drop.

In fall, as the days shorten, the plant will begin to yellow and fade. This is normal. Stop watering, let the foliage die back, and store the tuber in a cool, dry, dark place until spring. Repot and resume watering when new growth appears.
