Instructions: (we do not post instructions)

Note -place them in the refrigerator for 90–120 days

The cold stratification approach produces very high germination rates in these species.

1.Fill a plastic bag with growing material. Place a handful of peat moss, vermiculite, or germination paper in a small, plastic, zip-locked bag. For best results, use sterile material and handle it with disposable gloves to avoid introducing fungus.

Tiny "snack-sized" bags work best. Larger bags trap more air with the seeds, which can lead to fungal problems.

Red maple seeds are sensitive to acidity. For this species, choose vermiculite (a neutral or basic substance) rather than peat moss (acidic).

2.Add a little water. Add a couple drops of water to the growing material to dampen the material slightly. If you see standing water, or if you can squeeze out water from the material, it is too wet.

3.Apply a little fungicide (optional). Fungicide can prevent mold from destroying your seeds, but it is not always necessary, and may damage the plant if overused. Add only in tiny quantities, following manufacturer's instructions.

Some growers rinse the seeds in very diluted bleach solutions instead.

4.Add the seeds and close the bag. Place your seeds in the bag. Starting from the base, roll the bag to expel most of the air. Zip it closed.

5.Store in the refrigerator . Now it's time to "stratify" the seeds, or expose them to temperatures that trigger germination. For most species, the ideal temperature is usually around 1–5ºC (33.8–41ºF).The crisper drawer of a refrigerator is usually about this temperature.

Ideally, use a thermometer to confirm the correct temperature. Some seeds may fail to germinate if the temperature is just a couple degrees off.

If possible, keep boxelder and Norway maple seeds at exactly 5ºC (41ºF), and red maple seeds at exactly 3ºC (37.4ºF). Other species are not as picky.

6.Leave them for 40–120 days, checking every week or 2. Most of these species take 90–120 days to germinate, but the bigleaf maple and a few others can sprout in as few as 40.Every week or 2, check on the bag and make adjustments as needed:

If you notice condensation, pick up the bag and gently tap it to knock the water droplets off. Lay the bag back down on the opposite side, so the wet seeds have a chance to dry off.

If the growing material has dried out, add a drop or 2 of water.

If you notice any mold or black spots, remove the affected seed and throw it away. (If the whole batch is molding, try a little fungicide.)

If the seeds have begun to sprout, remove them from the refrigerator.

7. Plant the seeds. Once the seeds have germinated, plant them 0.6–1.2cm (¼–½ inch) under moist soil. Most maples do well in partial shade, but look up the exact species if possible for more info on planting.

To increase the odds of survival, start the seedlings in an indoor seed tray instead. Fill the tray with 7.6–10 cm (3–4 inches) of well-draining potting soil, or an even mix of peat moss, rotted compost, vermiculite, and coarse sand. Water whenever the soil becomes completely dry. Transfer to planter pots once the second set of leaves appear.

Where the Wildflowers Grow and this book was such an emotional journey. What started as a survival story slowly turned into a story about healing, identity, forgiveness, and learning how to live again after trauma. Leandra endured more pain than most people could imagine. Losing her family, spending five years in prison, and surviving the prison transport bus crash would have been enough to completely harden her. Instead, watching her reinvent herself as Leigh and slowly rediscover who she was outside of survival mode made this story feel deeply human and realistic. I really loved the symbolism of the flower farm and how Jackson became a safe place for her without trying to “fix” her. Their relationship felt patient, healing, and genuine. The romance never overshadowed Leigh’s personal growth, which I appreciated. This book truly explored what it means to be loved properly while still carrying scars from your past. What kept me invested the entire time was the tension hanging over everything. Even during the peaceful moments, you knew the secrets surrounding Leigh’s past would eventually surface. And when the truth finally came out, the consequences were emotional and impactful instead of feeling overly dramatic.

Fantastic Book!
Format: Paperback
“This book is such an amazing, thought-provoking, raw, and beautifully written novel. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and truly could not put it down. The characters came alive in such a vivid and unforgettable way that I was genuinely sad when the story ended, and I cried so much at the end. It pulled at my heartstrings in the most beautiful, poignant, and emotionally honest way. A truly unforgettable read.”

emotionally rich but overly long.
Format: Kindle
Where the wildflowers grow has some generally moving moments, especially around grief, healing, and found family. The flower farm setting is comforting, and Leigh’s trauma feels authentic. However, the pacing is slow in the middle. Some of the plot twist are fairly predictable. I felt the love between Leigh and Jackson was moving, and I felt her healing with Tibbs and Luke was very emotional. The book lies heavily into melancholy, but I I’m glad that I read it. I didn’t feel like it was a complete waste of time. I just wish it was maybe a little shorter.

This book was really good, it's definitely a love story, I enjoyed the story line. It definitely took a while for it to come out, but I had my suspicions along the way. It's a long book but it was a quick read for me.

A Beautiful Story of Healing and Hope
Format: Kindle
Where the Wildflowers Grow is a tender and beautifully written story about survival, healing, and unexpected love. Leigh has endured unimaginable loss, and her time on the flower farm becomes the pause her spirit needs. I loved this story as my heart ached at Leigh’s journey. Jackson is a beautiful soul who understands the work of healing and helps her feel seen and alive again. The book is filled with learning nuggets and gentle reminders, including my favorite line: “You are more than the sum of your struggles.” A beautiful reminder that something new can bloom after heartbreak.
